The Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for a new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. The research field Cyber Security within the Competence Unit for Security and Communication Technologies is leading in applied research of advanced cyber exercise environments, machine learning and AI for defense. An on-prem and cloud-native cyber range is the basis for a leading role in many international research projects.

Master Thesis "Risk, Compliance and Cyber Security”

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • In this master thesis project, you will work on the automated risk assessment of IT and OT systems and components, using artifacts and logs generated after security tests and cyber exercises.
  • You will utilize the AIT Cyber Range, a test and training infrastructure specifically designed for this purpose.
  • The main goal of this thesis is to determine the resilience of IT and OT systems, components, and identify the risks associated with their integration into existing systems.
  • Under the guidance of the Cyber Range team and the Risk Management team, you will conduct your work and collaborate to enhance the evaluation process.
  • You will validate test results and automate the risk assessment based on these findings.
  • You will expand your knowledge and skills in the field of cybersecurity and risk management, focusing on system risk assessment in accordance with relevant standards and norms.
  • You will be trained in scientific research. If successful, you may continue as a Ph.D. student and publish your results at a scientific conference.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Ongoing master's studies in Computer Science / Business Informatics or related fields.
  • Knowledge of risk management of IT systems
  • Experience with collecting data and artifacts in virtual systems
  • You are enthusiastic about application-oriented challenges in the area of IT and OT systems and risk management.
  • High level of commitment and ability to work in an international team.
  • Good language skills in German or English (written & spoken)

 
Details:

  • Duration of the Master project: 6 months
  • AIT supervises Master students together with local universities, such as the TU Wien, the University of Vienna or the Johannes Kepler University Linz.
  • Admission at an university is compulsory and independent from the Master position at AIT.


What to expect:
EUR 1.349,60 gross per month, for 20 h / week based on the collective agreement. In addition to numerous events, seminars and networking opportunities, there will be additional company benefits.
